Formed underwater by mineral-laden hot springs welling up from the bottom of the lake, the bizarre and beautiful tufa towers of Mono Lake, California have been exposed to the air by the sinking water level. Here, their white rock gleams in the sunshine, while the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, immensely higher and more distant, tower in the background. |
